Julie Flowerday, assistant professor of anthropology, presented Writing Colonial History under Postcolonial Conditions (Focus: Elements of Discord in Language and Politics) at the 37th Annual Conference on South Asia Oct 16-18 in Madison, WI; presented, James Peacock’s Vision and Visualization in Modernization, at the American Anthropological Association Nov 20-21, in San Francisco, CA; presented Writing Colonial History under Postcolonial Conditions: The Unfinished Study (Focus: Hidden subtext of Isolation) at the Global Issues Colloquium, Truman State University; and, wrote a book chapter Blasting a Boulder and Building Memories in View Points. Wolfgang Hoeschele, associate professor of geography, signed a book contract with Gower Publishers in Aldershot, UK, to publish a book in 2010 entitled The Economics of Abundance: A Political Economy of Freedom, Equity, and Sustainability; presented with Ma’ikwe Schaub Ludwig of Dancing Rabbit Ecovilonline; "Local Responses to Interna-tional Financial Crises: Past and Present” Jan 22, 2009 at the Global Issues Colloquium, Truman State  University; presented "Cittaslow: Campanilismo or Lebensqualität? Translations and Betrayals in a Quest for the Ideal City” Feb. 16, 2009, at the Faculty Forum, Truman State University; led, with Nina Gregg of Charter for Human Responsibilities, a workshop on "Libratory, Equitable, and Sustainable Economy" March 20, 2009, at the Forum on the Solidarity Economy: Building another World, Amherst, Massachusetts.

 

Amber Johnson, associate professor of anthropology, published a paper titled “Distinguishing Environmental and Density-Dependent Aspects of Adaptation” in the Ecovilonline journal Before Farming (2008/4 article 5). This paper was initially presented in at the Society for American Archaeology meetings in Vancouver, BC in March of 2008.

 



 

 

Elaine McDuff, associate professor of sociology, published an article, “Organizational Context and the Sexual Harassment of Clergy” in the Fall 2008 issue of the Sociology of Religion Journal; presented “Collaborative Learning in an Undergraduate Theory Course” at the Midwest Sociological Society Meeting April 2-4 in Des Moines, Ia.




 

Bonnie Lynn Mitchell, assistant professor of sociology, presented "Far From the Border: Immigrant Experiences in the Rural Midwest" at the Midwest Sociological Society Meetings in Des Moines, IA, April 2- 3 and presented “Indigenous Survival: Strategies of Cultural Resistance” at the Global Issues Colloquium in November. She also wrote a chapter on "Peace Prizes” [MS129] for the Encyclopedia of Violence, Peace, and Conflict, 2nd Edition. Ed. L. R. Kurtz. Oxford: Elsevier.
